Knowing how a dancer's mind works is key to what I bring into the studio with my classes. As a former professional myself, I intricately understand what a dancer walks through on a daily basis: the self doubt, perfectionistic thinking, insecurity, plus the love and joy of creating pure beauty through movement. The love of something so wonderful at a young age can be quite powerful, but also overwhelming at times.
I wrote this workbook and designed these classes to be a help and a support to the young dancer (15-23), but may be an added resource for any age. The exercises and tools I use are from my trained experience as a life coach, but are interwoven with a new perspective and approach to seeing oneself, not only as a dancer, but as a whole person, who has a unique voice and something individual to share with this world.
I have divided my approach into 3 Focused Points where artistry is witnessed and felt within the dancer's body. These 3 points are energy centers held within the body and are direct links to expression and knowing of our inner self. I think of the work I do in my classes as the pre-work before you get into the studio and begin moving. The 3 Classes: Core Values, Opening of Heart, and Connection to Intention and Goals correspond to the Solar Plexus, Heart Center and Crown held within the physical body.
I work with the dancers in a personal and connection based way to offer an environment where there is time to work with the exercises provided in each class, but also time for structured coaching of individual questions. My coaching style is mainly through guidance and support, so that the dancers themselves may find their own answers and wisdom. The exercises and tools that I provide are based mainly on partner exercises, group sharing, and individual exploration. The lecture side to things is woven throughout the classes, offering a focus on experiential learning. The dancers take notes and work directly in their own personal journals and use the Artistry Workbook, as a wonderful resource for further introspection once they are home.
My classes are specifically created with the dance teacher or program director in mind. I offer flexibility in scheduling through the ability to weave my classes into any summer program, year-long training or university program, intensive, whatever you have created I would love to be a part of it. A sample schedule may look something like this: 3 one hour classes, or any length of time, interspersed within the intensive; perhaps, if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, you may want to do a bi-monthly class with homework; it really is something that we can co-create based around your needs. ***Keep in mind, I have a fully booked coaching client base, so I do advise scheduling in advance.
The fees and numbers:
As a certified coach, I base my rates on something comparable to that profession, not on the ballet dance teacher rates. Because I still love dance and have such a life-long connection with it, I have lowered my personal hourly coaching rates to better serve the dance world. So realize, this is actually a deal!
$100 per hour. (this is somewhat negotiable based on how many classes you are wanting me to teach and your location).
Purchase of the Artistry Workbook is desirable for the classes, but not necessary. I consider it similar to buying a textbook for a college class, so you may ask your dancers to purchase it themselves prior to the classes or you may purchase them in bulk from me with a 20% discount on 20 workbooks purchased, which is $12 per book ---instead of $15.
